Commerce Ministry and China’s Yueqing Discuss Expanding Bilateral Trade Relations

Phnom Penh, 15 July 2024: The Cambodian Ministry of Commerce and Yueqing city from China’s Zhejiang province have recently engaged in discussions to expand their relationship and promote bilateral trade cooperation between Cambodia and China.

The meeting took place between SOK Darith, Advisor and Deputy Director of the General Department of Trade Promotion, and Chen Xiangdong, Chairman of the Yueqing Municipal Committee of the CPPCC, Zhejiang province, according to the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce.

During the meeting, SOK Darith highlighted that Cambodia and China have strengthened their bilateral ties from a "steel friendship" to a "diamond friendship." He noted that both governments are committed to building a Cambodia-China community with a shared future and elevating bilateral trade to new heights under the Cambodia-China Bilateral Free Trade Agreement.

The deputy director added that many Chinese businessmen and investors are operating in Cambodia across various sectors, including infrastructure, factories, industry, agriculture, tourism, and services.

Furthermore, he informed that the General Department of Trade Promotion of the Ministry of Commerce has various forms of cooperation with China. These include participation in trade fairs in Nanning and other Chinese cities, the Cambodian Private Commercial Centre, the establishment of a Cambodia-China industrial park, business forums, trade meetings, and trade promotion activities.
