PHNOM PENH, July 15, 2024 — The Ministry of National Defense reported that efforts to locate a military helicopter, which lost contact with Air Force Command during a routine training exercise in the Cardamom Mountains, have so far been unsuccessful. The helicopter went missing on July 12, 2024, while flying over Pursat and Koh Kong provinces.
Despite favorable weather conditions aiding the search, the rescue team, composed of various military units, has yet to find any trace of the MH-912 helicopter, a Z9 model carrying a captain and a pilot. The search commenced early on July 13, and has continued rigorously over the past two days.
"The search operations have faced significant challenges due to the dense fog and the complex terrain of the forested area," a spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense stated. The ministry has acknowledged and expressed gratitude toward the dedicated efforts of all involved personnel and the private sector's readiness to assist in the ongoing search and rescue mission.
Officials are urging the private sector and public to allow the search and rescue teams to conduct their operations without interference to improve the chances of a successful recovery.
The Ministry remains committed to continuing the search for the missing aircrew and extends its thanks to all the forces and authorities participating in this critical operation. Further updates will be provided as the search progresses.
