China Monitors Shooting Incident Involving Former U.S. President Trump

International: According to PD China News, China is closely following the shooting incident at a campaign rally of former U.S. President Donald Trump. A foreign ministry spokesperson confirmed on Sunday that Chinese President Xi Jinping has expressed sympathies to Trump, who was injured in the shooting.

The incident, which took place in Butler, Pennsylvania, left former President Trump injured, one rally attendee killed, and two others critically wounded. The New York Post has published images, reportedly confirmed by law enforcement sources, identifying the shooting suspect as Thomas Matthew Crooks. Crooks, a 20-year-old from Bethel Park, lived 35 kilometers from the rally site and graduated from high school two years ago.

According to Pennsylvania state voter records, Crooks is a registered Republican. In 2021, he donated $15 to a political action committee supporting left-leaning and Democratic politicians. Law enforcement officials informed the Wall Street Journal that explosives were discovered in Crooks' car and at his family home. The paper also reported that Crooks' father legally purchased the AR-15 rifle used in the attack.

Local authorities are still searching for a motive for the attack, though early details about Crooks, who was shot dead by law enforcement, show a young man working an entry-level job near his hometown in Pennsylvania, where he graduated from high school in 2022 with a reputation as a bright but quiet classmate.

Former President Trump arrived in New Jersey hours after surviving the assassination attempt. The international community, including China, continues to monitor the situation closely, with hopes for a swift resolution to the investigation and enhanced security measures at political events.
