The New York Post has published images, reportedly confirmed by law enforcement sources, identifying the shooting suspect as Thomas Matthew Crooks.
Crooks, a 20-year-old from Bethel Park, lived 35 kilometers from the rally site and graduated from high school two years ago.
According to Pennsylvania state voter records, Crooks is a registered Republican. In 2021, he donated $15 to a political action committee supporting left-leaning and Democratic politicians.
Law enforcement officials informed the Wall Street Journal that explosives were discovered in Crooks' car and at his family home. The paper also reported that Crooks' father legally purchased the AR-15 rifle used in the attack.
The incident left former President Trump injured, with one rally attendee killed and two others critically wounded.
