Phnom Penh, July 11, 2024 – Cambodia has participated in the 2024 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) under the theme "Reinforcing the 2030 Agenda and Eradicating Poverty in a Time of Multiple Crises: The Effective Delivery of Sustainable, Resilient, and Innovative Solutions," held at the UN headquarters in New York City, USA.
According to the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), Chhieng Yanara, Senior Minister in charge of Special Missions and Second Vice-President of the CDC, represented Cambodia at the HLPF, the central global platform for the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The 2024 HLPF aimed to review in-depth several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 1 to end poverty, SDG 2 to end hunger, SDG 13 to combat climate change, SDG 16 to promote inclusive societies, provide access to justice, and build effective institutions, and SDG 17 to partner for the Goals.
During the forum, Chhieng Yanara delivered a statement on SDG 17, emphasizing its critical role in achieving all other SDGs. He noted, “The world has found itself past the midpoint of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with stagnant progress, but acceleration remains possible.”
“Although the first half of SDGs was adversely impacted by COVID-19 and other global and regional challenges, member states, in collaboration with other development actors, can accelerate progress in the second half,” he continued.
“In this regard, effective development cooperation and partnerships, as well as commitment to addressing development financing challenges through multilateralism and various financing mechanisms, are imperative to support governments in achieving SDGs and creating a more equitable, resilient, and sustainable world,” he added.
