National Assembly President Khuon Sodary to Lead Official Visit to Thailand

Phnom Penh, July 11, 2024— Khuon Sodary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, is set to embark on a significant official visit to Thailand from July 11 to 12, responding to an invitation extended by Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, President of the Thai National Assembly. This visit aims to reinforce the longstanding friendship and strategic partnership between Cambodia and Thailand.

The departure of Cambodia's Special Airplane from Phnom Penh International Airport this morning marks the commencement of President Sodary's visit. Scheduled meetings with key Thai dignitaries, including the King of Thailand, the President of the Senate, and the Prime Minister of Thailand, are anticipated highlights of her itinerary. Additionally, bilateral discussions with Wan Mohammad Noor Matha will focus on enhancing parliamentary cooperation across bilateral and multilateral platforms.

This diplomatic mission underscores the ongoing high-level engagement between Cambodia and Thailand, reflecting a deep-rooted bilateral relationship. A revised memorandum of understanding (MoU), expected to be signed during the visit, will update the 2007 agreement to address contemporary mutual concerns and foster enhanced collaboration for the benefit of both nations.

President Sodary's agenda also includes visits to notable historical sites in Thailand, aimed at promoting cultural exchange and tourism cooperation between the two countries.

The upcoming visit builds upon recent reciprocal visits by Thai and Cambodian leaders, underscoring the robust nature of bilateral ties. These include Thailand's Prime Minister Setha Thavisin's visit to Cambodia in late 2023, Wan Mohammad Noor Matha's visit to Cambodia in March 2024, and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet's official visit to Thailand in February 2024.

President Sodary's visit to Thailand is expected to further solidify the friendship and cooperation that have defined relations between Cambodia and Thailand for decades, setting a positive tone for future collaborations in various fields of mutual interest.
