Cambodia Developing Mobile App to Prevent Gender-Based Violence

Phnom Penh, July 2, 2024 – The Cambodian Ministry of Women's Affairs and its partners have been developing an app called the GBV Safe App to prevent gender-based violence.

Late last week in Phnom Penh, the ministry, in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Child Helpline Cambodia, organized an inter-ministerial working group meeting to update and discuss the progress of the GBV Safe App.

The meeting was chaired by Ms. Hou Samith, Secretary of State, Ministry of Women's Affairs, and attended by 39 representatives from various ministries, institutions, and stakeholders.

The purpose of the meeting was to provide updates on the ongoing progress and development of the Safe App mobile application. The inter-ministerial working group also conducted testing to identify issues and gather recommendations for further improvements before the official launch.

According to the Ministry of Women's Affairs, the GBV Safe App is designed to prevent gender-based violence and make resources accessible to people, especially victims seeking help. The app will offer emergency support, information on available services, and their locations.
