Culture Minister Congratulates Success of Documentary Film "Elvis of Cambodia: The Legacy of Sinn Sisamuth"

Phnom Penh, July 2, 2024 – Dr. Phoeurng Sackona, Minister of Culture and Fine Arts, has welcomed the success of the documentary film titled "Elvis of Cambodia: The Legacy of Sinn Sisamuth."

During a courtesy meeting on July 1 with Chris G. Parkhurst, the film's producer, Dr. Phoeurng Sackona expressed her congratulations on the successful screening of "Elvis of Cambodia: The Legacy of Sinn Sisamuth" at the opening ceremony of the 13th Cambodia International Film Festival. The event, held on June 25 at the Chaktomuk Conference Hall in Phnom Penh, received strong support from both national and international audiences.

The Minister praised the documentary for highlighting the history, masterpieces, and extraordinary talent of Sinn Sisamuth, widely known as the "Golden Voice Emperor" of Cambodia. She noted that the film serves as a valuable memory for future generations.

Chris G. Parkhurst thanked the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts for supporting the documentary's production and sought the ministry's authorization to promote the film throughout Cambodia, especially in rural areas, to give local people an opportunity to learn more about Sinn Sisamuth.

Sinn Sisamuth (1933-1976) was a renowned Cambodian singer and songwriter, active from the 1950s to the 1970s, whose legacy continues to influence Cambodian music.
