Phnom Penh, July 2, 2024 – The 984.31-hectare Kiriyong Natural Heritage Site in Battambang Province has been officially registered as state public land, according to the Ministry of Land Management.
The site was registered following cadastral techniques and land law procedures, conducted by the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction. The site is managed by the Ministry of Environment and falls under the control of the Ministry of Economy and Finance in accordance with the Law on Management of Use and Disposal of State Property.
The Kiriyong Natural Heritage Site was established by Sub-Decree No. 66, signed by former Prime Minister Hun Sen on May 25, 2020. The objectives of this designation are:
1. To protect the role of ecosystems for the benefit of all generations.
2. To limit the use of biodiversity, natural resources, cultural resources, and the functions of the area.
3. To protect the natural beauty and values of the area for entertainment, sightseeing, education, scientific research, and beliefs, ensuring no threats to the local natural environment and culture.
4. To provide natural and cultural services for sustainable use.
5. To promote the participation of local communities and the public in the management, protection, and conservation of biodiversity, natural resources, and cultural heritage in the region.
