Prime Minister Urges Expedited Registration of State Land to Prevent Encroachment

Kampong Cham: Prime Minister Hun Manet has called on the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction to expedite the registration of state land to prevent illegal encroachment. Speaking at the National Fish Day event in Boeung Thom, Kampong Samnang Village, Mean Commune, Prey Chhor District on July 1, 2024, the Prime Minister emphasized the urgent need for clear land registration to protect state property.

During his address, Prime Minister Hun Manet highlighted the importance of safeguarding Cambodia's natural resources. He instructed the Fisheries Administration to enhance efforts in conserving fishery resources, flooded forests, and mangrove forests. Special attention was given to the Mekong River dolphin and other vulnerable aquatic species. He also called for the release of more juvenile fish and other aquatic species into natural habitats and urged the Fisheries Administration to study, improve, and restore shallow fish habitats, particularly during the dry season.

The Prime Minister encouraged increased cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology to protect vulnerable fish and aquatic habitats. He underscored the necessity of the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction's leadership in registering state land to prevent encroachment, particularly around Tonle Sap Lake, which is crucial for fish spawning and feeding.

Additionally, Prime Minister Hun Manet urged relevant ministries, sub-national administrations, and development partners to continue promoting afforestation and mangrove reforestation to provide spawning grounds for aquatic animals and maintain ecosystem sustainability.
