Phnom Penh, July 1, 2024 – The Cambodian Dragon Boat Team secured a gold medal in the 2,000 meters event, achieving the top position among numerous countries during the event finals on the evening of June 30, 2024, in Russia.
The Cambodian team clocked a winning time of 9:10.117, with the Indonesian team taking the silver medal with a time of 9:15.587, and Uzbekistan earning the bronze with a time of 9:19.505.
Overall, the Cambodian National Dragon Boat Team won a total of three medals—one gold and two bronze—at the International Dragon Boat Festival in Russia. The team competed in three disciplines and won medals in all of them.
Chay Sichoeun, Deputy Secretary General of the Cambodian Canoeing and Rowing Federation, who was in charge of the delegation, attributed this success to the relentless efforts of the athletes and the support of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sar Sokha, who is also the President of the Cambodian Canoeing and Rowing Federation.
The international event in Russia featured teams from nine countries, including Russia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, India, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and Malaysia. Russia, as the host, had numerous boats in the competition. The International Dragon Boat Competition in Russia was held from June 29 to 30, 2024. Cambodia participated in three events: the 12-men dragon boat races at 200 meters, 500 meters, and 2,000 meters, and won a total of three medals—one gold and two bronze.
