Phnom Penh, June 23, 2024 - Amidst a backdrop of joyous cheers and heartfelt congratulations, the Golden Gate American School (GGAS) bid farewell to its graduating class of 2024 at the Sofitel Phnom Penh Hall. The ceremony, marked by the distribution of diplomas and certificates of appreciation, celebrated not only academic achievements but also the aspirations of Cambodia’s future leaders.

The graduating students expressed optimism and determination as they embark on their respective paths.

Both Sarakvuth, envisioning a future in computer science, shared his ambitions: "After graduating from this school, I plan to study abroad, focusing on Computer Science."

Houkun Vitou Richard, aspiring psychologist, voiced his commitment to addressing mental health issues: "I want to contribute to helping people overcome their mental issues and make the world a better place."

For Tep Sovannpisey, inspired by her mother’s career in law, the dream is to follow in her footsteps: "My role model is my mom, and I aspire to become a lawyer, judge, or prosecutor—something connected to law."

Reflecting on their time at GGAS, students reminisced fondly about the experiences that shaped them. Richard highlighted the camaraderie and joy of school activities, while Sovannpisey recalled a myriad of emotions, describing high school as a mix of sadness, fun, and happiness.

Tep Sovannpisey: “lot of things going around my high school year, there is some sad, fun and happy everything at once. There are so many things that I cannot say it in words."

Tep Sovannpisey was one of the outstanding Golden Gate American students who won and raised the Cambodian flag high in international high school competitions.

GGAS has earned a reputation for excellence in education, both domestically and internationally, participating actively in competitions like the Copernicus Olympiad and Pangea Math World Olympiad. Heng Sokunthea, Chairwoman of GGAS, emphasized the school’s mission to cultivate well-rounded individuals equipped with foreign languages, technology skills, ethical virtues, encourage students to think, innovation, and built their leadership.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Hangchuon Naron, commended GGAS for its contributions to Cambodian education and encouraged graduates to pursue their dreams diligently: "Your efforts honor your family, community, and Cambodia."

Established in 1996, GGAS offers a robust curriculum aligned with international standards, providing education in Khmer, English, and Chinese. Recently authorized to teach the International Baccalaureate curriculum, GGAS promotes critical thinking and personal development.

As the graduates look forward to new challenges and opportunities, Tep Sovannpisey expressed gratitude for the profound impact of GGAS on her life: "I am grateful to this school for providing me with knowledge, memories, and friendships."
