Prime Minister Hun Manet Launches Cambodian Cyber University Network

Phnom Penh, June 25, 2024: Prime Minister Hun Manet inaugurated the Cambodian Cyber University Network (CCUN) at the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC) in Phnom Penh this morning. The launch marks a significant advancement in Cambodia's higher education sector, highlighting a major push towards integrating digital technology in educational institutions.

The CCUN aims to foster collaboration among Cambodian universities by sharing infrastructure and academic resources, facilitating the transfer of study credits, and offering open educational resources to both local and international scholars. This network is expected to enhance the accessibility and quality of higher education through the use of technology.

During the inauguration, Prime Minister Hun Manet emphasized the importance of technology and ICT skills in the current global landscape. He urged all CCUN member institutions to collaborate effectively, particularly in sharing data center resources, to overcome financial limitations that some universities face.

Education Minister Hang Chuon Naron provided further details on the CCUN, noting that it comprises 12 public and private higher education institutions. To date, these institutions have collaboratively developed educational content for 69 subjects across 18 specialized undergraduate programs, benefiting over 5,000 students.

Member institutions of the CCUN include the Institute of Technology of Cambodia, the Royal University of Phnom Penh, National University of Battambang, Svay Rieng University, Heng Samrin-Thbong Khmum University, Royal University of Agriculture, National University of Management, Chea Sim Kamchay Mear University, University of Kratie, Battambang Institute of Pedagogy, Phnom Penh International University, and Angkor University.

This initiative is part of Cambodia's broader strategy to leverage digital technologies for educational and economic growth, ensuring that the workforce is prepared for the challenges of the digital age.
