National Assembly President Khuon Sodary Set for Official Visit to Thailand in July

Phnom Penh, June 20, 2024 – National Assembly President Khuon Sodary of the Kingdom of Cambodia is scheduled for an official visit to Thailand in mid-July, following an invitation from Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, President of the Thai National Assembly. This visit aims to strengthen and deepen the friendship and cooperation between the two parliaments, in alignment with their "Strategic Partnership" to further mutual interests.

This marks the fourth official foreign visit by President Sodary since the commencement of the 7th National Assembly. Parliamentary diplomacy is a key priority for the 7th legislature, aimed at serving the national interests, enhancing the people’s welfare, and boosting Cambodia’s international stature. Previously, President Sodary has officially visited Vietnam, Laos, and France and is planning a future visit to China.

During her visit, President Sodary is expected to meet with the King of Thailand, the Prime Minister of Thailand, and engage in bilateral discussions with her Thai counterpart. These talks are anticipated to broaden parliamentary cooperation and may lead to a revised Memorandum of Understanding between the two parliaments, originally established in 2007, to better serve the peoples of both nations.

The visit reflects President Sodary's utilization of parliamentary diplomacy to fortify ties and enhance cooperation across multiple sectors, including tourism, trade, investment, and human resource development, contributing to national and regional stability and development.

The exchange of high-level visits between Cambodia and Thailand continues to underscore the robust relationship between the two countries, as evidenced by recent reciprocal visits by leaders from both nations, including Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Manet's visit to Thailand on February 7, 2024.
