Siem Reap Provincial Court Announces Investigation into Vandalism by Youth Group

Siem Reap, June 11, 2024: The First Instance Court of Siem Reap Province would like to inform the public and all media outlets that it has received Case File No. 809 dated June 10, 2024, concerning a group of fifteen teenagers (five of whom have been detained: 1. Meas Sovannmey, male, 17 years old; 2. Rith Dararet, male, 16 years old; 3. Eoun Makara, male, 15 years old; 4. Nang Visal, male, 16 years old; and 5. Pech Virak Othdom, male, 17 years old).

On June 9, 2024, the aforementioned group of fifteen teenagers allegedly damaged public property by throwing rocks and breaking the windows and fences of a coffee shop, as well as throwing rocks and damaging the motorcycle of Mr. Ritthy Rin.

The five detained teenagers listed above, along with their accomplices, are accused of intentional destruction of property with aggravating circumstances, according to Article 411 of the Cambodian Penal Code. The offense occurred in Trapeang Thul Village, Svay Dangkum Commune, Siem Reap City, Siem Reap Province, on June 9, 2024.

After questioning the suspects and reviewing the evidence in the case file, the investigating judge has decided to detain Meas Sovannmey, Rith Dararet, Eoun Makara, Nang Visal, and Pech Virak Othdom pending further investigation according to legal procedures.
