Health Ministry Leaders Team Up with Partners to Address TB-Related Family Expenses in Cambodia

Phnom Penh, June 11, 2024: Under the guidance of Professor Chheang Ra, Minister of Health, Dr. Yok Sambath, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Health, chaired a workshop today to present research findings on the financial impact of tuberculosis (TB) on families across Cambodia.

The workshop included significant figures such as Dr. Mao Tan An, Undersecretary of State for Health, and Mr. Hun Huang, Deputy Director General of Health Technology, along with health officials from twelve provincial administrations and representatives from international development partners including USAID, WHO, KHANA, FHI360, ASHA, and LHSS.

The objectives of this workshop were:

To share the results of a recent study on the expenses borne by Cambodian families affected by TB.

To reach consensus on proposed measures and discuss the implementation of strategies to enhance social health care services for TB patients and their families throughout the nation.

During the event, Dr. Yok Sambath also held discussions with KHANA about organizing a regional TB conference under the theme "Beyond the UN Regional Summit: One Vision, One Action."
