PHNOM PENH, June 7, 2024 – Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Manet inaugurated the first phase of the Kampot Multi-Purpose Port, a significant infrastructure project valued at US$ 140 million, funded by Kampot Port. This development marks one of ten multi-purpose ports planned across Cambodia, aiming to enhance the nation's waterway transportation and expand its trade outreach globally.
During the inauguration, Prime Minister Hun Manet highlighted the strategic importance of the new port, stating it will position Kampot province as a central hub for trade, tourism, and investment within Cambodia.
Peng Ponea, Minister of Public Works and Transport, detailed the port's capabilities, noting that it can accommodate ships carrying up to 10,000 tonnes or 666 TEUs. The port is equipped with 3 gantry crane systems (GCSs) and 3 rubber-tired gantry cranes (RTGs).
Spanning 678 hectares, the port features a 55,000 square meter container yard and an 8,800 square meter warehouse. The construction of the Kampot Logistics and Port project began in May 2022, undertaken by Shanghai Construction Group and China Road and Bridge Corporation.
