PHNOM PENH, June 4, 2024 – The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, in collaboration with various stakeholders, has convened a national workshop aimed at improving the management of water resources and irrigation infrastructure.
The workshop, which took place on June 3 in Phnom Penh, was led by Minister Thor Chetha, who emphasized the importance of gathering detailed and actionable insights.
Participants included technical experts from the ministry, representatives from other relevant ministries and government bodies, provincial administrations, and development partners. They discussed the creation and implementation of an updated and precise data management system.
Minister Chetha highlighted that a robust data management system is essential for strengthening disaster alert systems, which are crucial for saving lives and minimizing economic losses, particularly among vulnerable populations. Such systems are also vital for mitigating the adverse impacts of floods and droughts on agriculture, thereby supporting environmentally sustainable practices, the green economy, and climate change responsiveness.
He expressed gratitude to all stakeholders and partners, notably the Asian Development Bank, for their support in facilitating the discussions.
