Cambodian Prime Minister Urges Youth to Reject Gang Activities

PHNOM PENH, May 31, 2024 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has called on the nation, particularly its younger citizens, to renounce all forms of gang-related activities.

Speaking at the inauguration of new achievements at the Buddhist Cultural Centre of Cambodia in Phnom Sruoch district, Kampong Speu province, the Prime Minister made a passionate plea to the youth.

"Please commit yourselves to your studies and personal strength, but steer clear of violence and illegal motorbike racing," he urged, directing law enforcement agencies to intensify efforts against gang-related acts.

This appeal comes in the wake of the recent arrest of at least 70 young individuals earlier this week, who now face charges of aggravated intentional violence and possession of unauthorized weapons.
