Hun Manet: A 25-Year Journey from West Point to Cambodia's Prime Minister

Phnom Penh, May 29, 2024 — Today marks the 25th anniversary of Hun Manet's graduation from the prestigious United States Military Academy at West Point. On this day in 1999, Hun Manet became the first Khmer child to earn a military doctorate from this renowned American institution.

In a remarkable journey that began a quarter-century ago, Hun Manet has risen to become the Prime Minister of Cambodia, reflecting the significant influence of his American education on his leadership.

Hun Manet ascended to Cambodia's top political position on August 22, 2023, becoming the fourth Prime Minister of the Second Kingdom of Cambodia. His rise to power was backed by the full support of the National Assembly, succeeding his father, former Prime Minister Hun Sen.

Since assuming office, Prime Minister Hun Manet has unveiled the "Pentagon Strategy" for the seventh mandate government, emphasizing robust and forward-thinking policies. His tenure has been marked by increasing popularity and decisive leadership, shaping a new era for Cambodia.
