Cambodian Badminton Team Shines at Southeast Asia Regional Junior Championships

PHNOM PENH, May 28, 2024 - In a remarkable display of talent and determination, the Cambodian Badminton team has brought home an impressive haul of 14 medals from the Badminton Asia Southeast Asia Regional Junior Championships 2024, held in the Lao People's Democratic Republic. Prime Minister Hun Manet took to social media to congratulate the team on their outstanding achievement, which included 4 silver and 10 bronze medals.

According to Cheam Sophea, Secretary General of the Cambodia Badminton Federation, the U17 team secured 2 silver and 4 bronze medals, while the U15 team claimed 1 silver and 5 bronze medals. The mixed team events saw further success, with 1 silver and 1 bronze medal won by the U15 and U17 teams combined.

This remarkable performance serves as a testament to the dedication and potential of Cambodia's young badminton athletes. Cheam Sophea emphasized that this achievement is a positive sign for the development of Cambodia's badminton resources, and the tournament provided a valuable opportunity for the athletes to hone their skills and gain valuable experience for their future careers in the sport.

The Badminton Asia Southeast Asia Regional Junior Championships 2024 brought together athletes from host nation Lao PDR, Cambodia, Timor-Leste, Brunei, and Myanmar. The competition was divided into two events: the mixed team event for U17 and U15 categories, which included men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles; and the individual event, also for U17 and U15 categories, featuring the same disciplines.
