PHNOM PENH, May 23, 2024 — Cambodia and China's Yunnan Province have signed a cooperation agreement to mutually promote each other's marathon events, extending the partnership beyond sports.
Dr. Thong Khon, President of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), signed the agreement during his participation in the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Dali Marathon 2024 on May 19 in Dali City, Yunnan Province, China.
As part of the agreement, Cambodia will send marathon athletes and voluntary runners to participate in the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Dali Marathons. Additionally, Cambodia will set up pavilions at these events to promote its culture and products, aiming to attract more tourists.
Conversely, Yunnan Province will send its runners to Cambodia's Angkor Empire Full Marathons and showcase their culture and products during the events.
This year, Yunnan Province will send 100 athletes and 500 voluntary runners to join the Angkor Empire Full Marathon 2024, scheduled for August. This collaboration is expected to significantly boost the number of participants in the marathon held in Siem Reap Province.
