More Red Zones in Preah Vihear, Preventative Measures for Kandal and Siem Reap

Preah Vihear: Barely a week after the end of government’s three-week anti-Delta campaign, and more provinces are introducing new restrictions and preventative measures. Phnom Penh’s will continue for two more weeks, with Kandal and Siem Reap now announcing their own 14-day restrictions. The border province of Preah Vihear was first to re-introduce red zones last week, and has now declared two more.

Preah Vihear now has three active red zones. The two new ones are the villages of Kulen Cheung and Kulen Tbong, both in the province’s Kulen district. The villages are in total lockdown until 8 September. This is in addition to the whole of Choam Ksant district that was locked down last Friday. Banteay Meanchey is also home to two red zones – namely Teuk Thla and Kampong Svay, both in Serey Sophorn City.

At the same time, the provincial administrations of Kandal and Siem Reap have followed Phnom Penh’s lead in implementing administrative measures to prevent the further spread of Covid-19. Kandal’s are effective on Friday for 14-days. Siem Reap’s are in place until further notice. As in Phnom Penh, alcohol sales are banned, together with gatherings of more than 15 people. All high-risk businesses are suspended.
