Monitoring Ensures Compliance in Angkor Resort Area Construction

PHNOM PENH, May 17, 2024 — A specialized team has begun the inspection and monitoring of construction activities among the old residents of the Angkor resort area, following the issuance of permissions for 232 cases. During the second week of May 2024, the construction review and monitoring team conducted assessments, issuing technical specifications for 78 approved construction cases and overseeing 153 minor repairs coordinated by the community team.

97 cases in Siem Reap city

34 cases in Prasat Bakong district

36 cases in Banteay Srey district

56 cases in Pouk district

37 cases in Angkor Thom district

Out of the 232 cases, there have been 155 instances of construction and repair fully adhering to their respective permits, 78 cases are still undergoing construction and repairs, and there is one case of construction and maintenance completely in line with the permit.

In instances where construction did not align with granted permissions, the teams have mandated modifications or a complete cessation of construction activities. The technical crews will continue their oversight until all permits are fully validated and construction activities reach completion.

Residents of Angkor Park, specifically those with long-standing residency, are required to obtain construction permits that are valid for one year, and permits for minor repair work handled by the community team are valid for three months. All ongoing constructions that hold valid permits are inspected by the Department of Land, Urban Heritage, and Community of the National Authority of Apsara, which provides technical specifications and guidance without charging the regular fees until the projects are completed to satisfaction.
