Delta Cases Surpass 1500, Phnom Penh Nears 500

Phnom Penh: The number of Covid-19 Delta cases in the kingdom is slowly climbing. The Ministry of Health confirmed on Friday that a total of 1,534 cases had been detected across the country. Only Kep and Kratie remain Delta free, and the highest number of cases is in Phnom Penh.

43 new Delta cases have been discovered in the capital this week. They take Phnom Penh’s total to 450. Banteay Meanchey has the second highest number of Delta patients at 286. Oddar Meanchey has 207 and Siem Reap has 178.

On Thursday, perhaps the most well-known market in the country was hit by a Delta scare. Phnom Penh’s Central Market was temporarily closed after a Delta patient revealed they’d been shopping there on the 15th of August. A total of 384 vendors and nearby residents underwent rapid tests. Three were positive, but it’s not yet known if they have the Delta variant.
