Ministry of Information Unveils New Health Support Framework for Officials

(Phnom Penh, May 15, 2024) — The Ministry of Information today announced the launch of a dedicated "official health room," marking a significant stride in its commitment to the welfare of its employees. During a ceremony held this morning, Mr. Neth Pheaktra, the Minister of Information, emphasized the role of this new facility in providing immediate healthcare guidance and support to ministry officials experiencing minor health issues during work hours.

The establishment of the health room is aimed at enhancing employee well-being and reducing healthcare costs for staff, as part of a broader framework of support. "This initiative is about more than just healthcare; it's about ensuring our staff feel supported and valued at all times," Mr. Pheaktra noted.

In addition to leveraging the Social Security Fund's resources, the Ministry has sought partnerships to lower the cost of medical examinations for both its officials and their families, as well as for journalists accredited with the Buomedic Medical Center. Furthermore, the Ministry provides monthly food and rice subsidies to approximately 300 of its most diligent workers.

The health room is located within the staff counseling section and staffed by a team of volunteer doctors, led by HE Dr. Sao Sambo. These doctors offer their services at no charge, demonstrating a community-driven approach to healthcare.

Mr. Pheaktra also highlighted the Ministry's progressive policies in support of female employees, revealing plans to establish a nursery for the children of female officials. This move is part of a series of initiatives aimed at fostering a supportive workplace environment.

By introducing these comprehensive support systems, the Ministry of Information is setting a precedent for governmental departments in Cambodia, prioritizing the health and well-being of its workforce in a holistic manner.
