National Assembly President Advocates for Women's Role in Diplomacy

PHNOM PENH, April 13, 2024 — On Monday morning, May 13, 2024, Khuon Sodary, President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, met with Tuot Panha, Ambassador of Cambodia to the United Kingdom, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland, as she prepared to embark on her diplomatic mission.

During the meeting, the President of the National Assembly highlighted the natural aptitudes women possess that are crucial in fulfilling diplomatic roles, such as sensitivity and adaptability. She emphasized that modern diplomacy extends beyond mere political negotiations, encompassing economic and people-to-people diplomacy, which are vital for fostering mutual understanding and strengthening international relations.

Sodary underscored the importance of people-to-people diplomacy in building interpersonal connections that can lead to enhanced trade, economic, and tourism relationships.

Furthermore, she noted that as a senior official representing Cambodia abroad, Tuot Panha plays a significant role in enhancing the nation's prestige and contributing to international cooperation across various domains. This is increasingly pertinent as the global order evolves, presenting new diplomatic challenges and opportunities.

In her response, Tuot Panha expressed profound gratitude to President Khuon Sodary for her guidance and support.
