Canadian Ambassador Expresses Satisfaction with Cambodia-Canada Relations

PHNOM PENH, April 13, 2024 – This morning, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet welcomed Obaid Saeed Obaid Bintaresh Aldhaheri, the United Arab Emirates Ambassador to Cambodia, at the Peace Palace for a courtesy visit and work discussion.

During the meeting, Ambassador Aldhaheri expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Hun Manet for making time in his busy schedule for the meeting, highlighting the longstanding and fruitful diplomatic relations between the two nations. He reaffirmed the UAE's commitment to enhancing the comprehensive economic partnership, emphasizing the significance of the Cambodia-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in fostering robust economic ties.

Prime Minister Hun Manet appreciated the ambassador's visit and remarked on the positive development of the diplomatic relations that have spanned over seven decades. He commended the active collaboration in various sectors, including trade, investment, infrastructure, transportation, agriculture, energy, and tourism, under the CEPA framework.

The ambassador pledged to continue strengthening and expanding cooperation on multiple fronts during his mission in Cambodia. He noted his focus would remain on enhancing bilateral trade and investment, promoting quality investments in clean energy, and supporting the agricultural and tourism sectors to foster sustainable growth and development.

Prime Minister Hun Manet highlighted Cambodia's priorities in developing infrastructure, clean energy, and sustainable agricultural practices. He noted that Cambodia has achieved 62% clean energy usage in its total energy consumption and aims to increase this to 70% by 2030. He also emphasized the importance of the tourism sector, where the government has implemented measures to boost the industry, confident that the partnership with the UAE will lead to increased tourist visits.

In conclusion, Prime Minister Hun Manet encouraged Ambassador Aldhaheri to continue collaborating with various Cambodian ministries and agencies to further enhance bilateral relations in commerce, investment, tourism, and other potential sectors. He wished the ambassador success in his mission and continued success in strengthening the ties between Cambodia and the UAE.
