Royal Plowing Ceremony Set to Commence in Chbar Morn City, Kampong Speu Province

PHNOM PENH, May 8, 2024 – This year's Royal Plowing Ceremony, a revered cultural event among the Khmer people, will take place at the Kampong Speu Provincial Department of Education, Youth and Sports in Chbar Morn City, Kampong Speu Province, under the auspices of His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni of the Kingdom of Cambodia on May 26, 2024. The event is organized according to the plan of the National Committee for National and International Festivals.

The Royal Plowing Ceremony holds significant cultural and agricultural importance, marking the beginning of the farming season and invoking blessings for a fruitful harvest. Traditionally, all kings have led and celebrated this ceremony since ancient times. Though His Majesty King Norodom Sihanouk, during the Sangkum Reastr Niyum era, didn't personally participate in the plowing, representatives would partake in his stead. The ceremony serves as a symbolic gesture to anticipate favorable weather conditions for agriculture and prosperity for the nation.

Last year's Royal Plowing Ceremony was conducted at the Kampong Thom Provincial Stadium in Rong Village, Trapeang Russey Commune, Kampong Svay District, Kampong Thom Province, under the esteemed patronage of His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni, attracting dignitaries from the Senate, National Assembly, Royal Government, diplomats from friendly nations, and thousands of students and civilians.
