Senate President Hun Sen Expresses Gratitude for Over $5 Million Raised at Charity Football Event

PHNOM PENH, May 2, 2024 — Hun Sen, President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia and Honorary Coach of the Cambodian Star Football Team, has extended his gratitude to philanthropists who generously donated to the charity football event titled "Together for Charity and Fighting Drugs." The event successfully raised funds for Kantha Bopha Hospital, amassing over $5 million in contributions as of May 1, 2024.

In a social media post on the evening of May 1, Hun Sen lauded the event's role in demonstrating the achievements of peace, political stability, and development, particularly highlighting the unity among Cambodians. He expressed appreciation for the four football teams that competed, the artists who performed, the logistical support from Phnom Penh Capital Hall, and the various branches of the armed forces. Additionally, he thanked the fans who attended the stadium and those who tuned in to the live broadcast.

Hun Sen detailed the allocation of the funds raised: $500,000 to Angkor Hospital for Children, $300,000 to the Center for Pediatric Cardiology of Japan, and $200,000 distributed among the families of 20 martyrs, totaling $1,000,000. The total contributions amounted to approximately $5,001,250.

This charitable initiative underscores the community's commitment to supporting vital healthcare services and commemorating national heroes, bolstering social welfare and national unity.
