Prime Minister Hun Manet Inaugurates New Toyota Assembly Plant in Phnom Penh

PHNOM PENH, May 2, 2024 — Prime Minister Hun Manet is scheduled to preside over the inauguration of a new Toyota car assembly plant this Thursday morning. The facility, a collaboration between TOYOTA TSUSHO CORPORATION of Japan and the local Kong Nuon Group, marks a significant development in Cambodia's automotive industry.

The assembly plant, owned 90% by Toyota Tsusho and 10% by Kong Nuon Group, is located in the Royal Group Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone, covering a total area of 42,971 square meters. It has received its investment registration certificate from the Council for the Development of Cambodia.

With an investment of $36,781,000, the factory boasts a capacity to assemble 1,320 vehicles annually to meet the market demand in 2024. This includes 290 units of the SUV model FORTUNER and 1,030 units of the pickup model HILUX. The plant currently employs 150 staff members.

The inauguration of this plant underscores Cambodia's growing capabilities in manufacturing and its attractiveness as an investment destination for major international corporations.
