Senate President Hun Sen Leads Charity Football Match to Support Children's Hospital and Combat Drug Abuse

PHNOM PENH, May 2, 2024 — Hun Sen, President of the Senate and President of the Supreme Privy Council to His Majesty the King, spearheaded a charity football match at the National Olympic Stadium Last night. The event, themed "Together for Charity and Fighting Against Drugs," aims to raise funds for the Kantha Bopha Children's Hospitals and combat drug abuse.

The match featured Cambodia’s football superstars and a well-known Cambodian singer, with Hun Sen serving as the honorary coach. His wife, Bun Rany Hun Sen, president of the Cambodian Red Cross, joined him in pledging 200 million riels to the cause. The couple’s involvement highlights their commitment to addressing key social issues through community-engaged initiatives.

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, Hun Sen expressed his enthusiasm about leading the team and discussed the match's broader goals with the team's coaches and players. "Our primary focus is to support the Kantha Bopha Hospital, which plays a crucial role in providing medical care to children across Cambodia," he noted.

The public is encouraged to attend and support the fundraising efforts. The match not only aims to raise financial support for the hospital but also to increase awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.
