Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen to Lead Charity Football Event Against Drugs

PHNOM PENH, April 25, 2024 — Senate President Hun Sen and his wife, Bun Rany Hun Sen, president of the Cambodian Red Cross, have pledged 200 million riels to support a charity football event aimed at combating drug abuse. The event, themed "Together for Charity and Fighting Against Drugs," is scheduled for May 1, 2024, at the Olympic Stadium.

Announced through his official Facebook page, Hun Sen shared that he has been invited to serve as the honorary coach for a team featuring Cambodia’s football superstars and a well-known Cambodian singer. In preparation, he met with the team's coaches and players to discuss the organization's short, medium, and long-term humanitarian goals.

The primary focus of the upcoming match is to raise funds for the Kantha Bopha Hospital, which provides vital medical care for children in Cambodia. Hun Sen will lead the team alongside the official coach, encouraging public attendance to bolster the humanitarian movement and support the fight against drug abuse.

The public is urged to participate generously to aid fundraising efforts for Kantha Bopha Hospital. The Senate President and his wife’s substantial donation underscores their commitment to healthcare and anti-drug campaigns in the country.
