PHNOM PENH, April 22, 2024 — Prime Minister Hun Manet welcomed the inaugural landing of the first AirAsia Cambodia aircraft at Phnom Penh International Airport this evening.
“Welcome to the first AirAsia Cambodia aircraft that arrived at Phnom Penh International Airport on April 20, 2024,” the Prime Minister shared on social media. He described the aircraft as “Beautifully designed with the picture of Angkor Wat Temple and the word ‘Cambodia’, ready for a demonstration and test flight on April 30 to obtain an official flight operator certificate.”
Official domestic flights are scheduled to commence on May 2, 2024, Hun Manet added.
He also noted that AirAsia Cambodia plans to operate four daily flights on each of the Phnom Penh-Siem Reap and Preah Sihanouk-Siem Reap routes.
The new aircraft, named Red Naga, features a striking design inspired by the Sacred Naga, a mythical creature symbolizing strength, protection, and prosperity. The vibrant colors of red, blue, and white not only reflect the hues of the iconic Angkor Wat Temple but also resonate with the national colors of the Cambodian flag, as highlighted on Fly AirAsia’s Facebook page.
