Lao President to Embark on Two-Day State Visit to Cambodia

PHNOM PENH, April 22, 2024 — The President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, Thongloun Sisoulith, is scheduled to visit Cambodia for a state visit from April 23 to 24. This visit comes at the invitation of King Norodom Sihamoni and signifies a continuing effort to strengthen bilateral ties between the two nations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation announced that during his stay, President Sisoulith will be honored with a royal audience by King Norodom Sihamoni at the Royal Palace. This meeting underscores the deep respect and mutual recognition that define the relationship between Cambodia and Laos.

In addition to his audience with the King, President Sisoulith is set to hold separate discussions with Hun Sen, President of the Senate; Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly; and Prime Minister Hun Manet. These meetings are anticipated to focus on reinforcing Cambodia-Laos cooperation and addressing regional and international issues of mutual concern.

The President’s itinerary also includes laying wreaths at the Independence Monument and the Royal Memorial Statue of the late King-Father, His Majesty Norodom Sihanouk. These acts of homage highlight the profound and lasting connections between the two neighboring countries.

The ministry’s press release emphasized that President Sisoulith’s visit “will mark a significant milestone in further enhancing the excellent relations, good neighborliness, fraternal ties, and solidarity, as well as the Comprehensive and Long-Lasting Strategic Partnership for the common prosperity of both nations.”
