Cambodia Focuses on Empowering Youth to Meet Global Challenges

Phnom Penh, April 18, 2024 – A Cambodian delegation has highlighted the government's efforts to empower the nation's youth, enabling them to keep pace with global advancements. Serey Chumneah, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports, emphasized this commitment while leading the Cambodian representatives at the 2024 United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum.

The forum, which runs from April 16 to 18, is being held at the United Nations headquarters in New York, USA.

During his speech at the opening ceremony, Secretary Chumneah noted the rapid technological advancements, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI), and outlined the government's substantial investments in equipping young Cambodians with essential 21st-century skills. These efforts aim to prepare them for future job markets that demand high adaptability and technological proficiency.

This year’s forum is themed "Youth shaping sustainable and innovative solutions: Reinforcing the 2023 agenda and eradicating poverty in times of crises.” It features discussions led by notable figures, including UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, ECOSOC President Puala Narváez, and Dennis Francis, President of the 78th session of the General Assembly.

The participation of the Cambodian delegation underscores the country's commitment to ensuring that its youth are well-prepared to contribute to sustainable development and innovation, particularly in times of global crises.
