ASEAN Secretariat Pledges to Enhance Collaboration with Cambodia in Building the ASEAN Community

Phnom Penh, April 11, 2024 – The ASEAN Secretariat has expressed its readiness to enhance its collaboration with Cambodia, contributing significantly to the ASEAN Community's development.

This commitment was emphasized by Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, the Secretary-General of ASEAN, through a congratulatory note addressed to the newly elected President of Cambodia's Fifth Legislature of the Senate.

In his message, Dr. Kim Hourn extolled the President’s remarkable ascent to the Senate's helm, citing it as a testament to his exceptional leadership skills and lifelong commitment to public service.

With the President’s extensive executive leadership experience, the Secretary-General is confident in his ability to steer the Senate towards contributing effectively to Cambodia's progress and ASEAN's objectives. He acknowledged the President’s prior roles, including as Foreign Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, and Prime Minister, as invaluable assets to the advancement of the region.

The ASEAN Secretary-General reaffirmed the Secretariat's eagerness to work in close quarters with Cambodia during the formative stages of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045. This initiative aims to strategically define ASEAN's trajectory over the coming two decades.

Anticipating a future of strengthened ties between ASEAN and Cambodia, Dr. Kim Hourn expressed his keen interest in officially meeting the Senate President during his forthcoming visit to Cambodia.
