Phnom Penh, April 8, 2024: The APSARA National Authority, tasked with the preservation and management of the Angkor archaeological site, has taken steps to improve the visitor experience by installing additional wooden benches under the shade of trees at various temples within the site. This initiative, led by the Tourism Services Control Team from the Department of Tourism Development and Culture, aims to accommodate the growing number of tourists seeking rest and relaxation amidst their explorations, particularly during the dry season.

Bou Phaneth, who heads the working team, noted the increased demand for comfortable seating options for tourists who wish to take a break from walking or to simply enjoy the serene views of the temples in a more relaxed setting. "Tourists can now sit and enjoy the temple vistas under the shade, which is especially beneficial for elderly visitors," Phaneth explained. The provision of benches is expected to offer relief from heat-related discomforts such as shortness of breath and to prevent visitors from resorting to sitting on ancient stones, thus also aiding in the conservation efforts.

The initiative comes just in time for the New Year celebrations, when the Angkor site typically sees a surge in both national and international visitors. The additional seating is anticipated to significantly enhance the overall visitor experience, allowing for moments of rest and reflection in the historic setting. This thoughtful addition underscores the APSARA National Authority's commitment to not only preserving the cultural heritage of Angkor but also ensuring that it remains accessible and enjoyable for all visitors.
