Phnom Penh, April 8, 2024: The long-awaited ASEAN Club Championship 2024-25 is set to commence in July, marking the return of the prestigious regional football tournament after several years of hiatus. The National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) has announced that the Cambodian football team will be joining the lineup for this anticipated competition.
The ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) recently released details about the championship, which is scheduled to run from July 17, 2024, to May 21, 2025. The tournament will feature 14 teams vying for glory, but only 12 will advance to the group stage. Football powerhouses Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Indonesia are each fielding two teams, while Singapore and the Philippines will each have one representative.
Cambodia, along with Laos, Myanmar, and Brunei, will participate in playoffs to secure one of the two remaining slots in the group stage. These playoffs are slated for July 17 and 24, 2024, setting the stage for intense early action.
The group stage, hosting 5 to 6 teams per group, will stretch from August 2024 to February 2025, followed by the semi-finals in April 2025. The tournament will culminate in the grand final on May 21, 2025, where the ASEAN Club Champion will be crowned.
