King Urges Collaboration Lawmakers and Government Must Work Together

Phnom Penh, April 2, 2024 – King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia has issued a call to action for the country's legislative and executive branches, urging them to join forces for the fulfillment of their pivotal roles in the seventh legislature.

In a royal message delivered during the opening ceremony of the second session of the seventh legislature of the National Assembly (NA) at the NA Palace this morning, the King emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation. "I request the legislature body and the Royal Government to unite as one to carry out the historic mission of the Seventh Legislature towards greater success for our beloved motherland, based on solidarity, national unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity," stated the monarch.

The King also lauded NA President Khuon Sudary for her exemplary leadership and intelligence in overseeing the NA’s three fundamental functions: legislation, monitoring of legal and policy enforcement, and responsible representation.

Furthermore, the King acknowledged the members of the seventh legislature of the NA as distinguished leaders with extensive experience in guiding Cambodia towards further progress, prosperity, and harmony.

Over the past three months, the seventh legislature of the NA has actively engaged in foreign affairs within bilateral and multilateral frameworks. This effort aims at strengthening, expanding, and enhancing parliamentary diplomacy, which is crucial for nurturing friendly relations and cooperation with parliaments and governments of other nations, development partners, and foreign diplomats. Additionally, it seeks to boost the Cambodian parliament’s involvement in inter-parliamentary forums and promote a multilateral mechanism that is open, inclusive, and adheres to the rules-based international order, ultimately contributing to peace, stability, prosperity, and sustainable development.
