Agriculture Minister Engages with Conservation International on Sustainable Development

Phnom Penh, March 20, 2024 – Dith Tina, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, hosted representatives from Conservation International (CI) at the ministry on March 19, 2024, to discuss future collaboration and support in sustainable agricultural development and conservation.

During the meeting, the Minister expressed his appreciation for CI's initiative in seeking cooperation with the Ministry. He outlined the agriculture sector's policy aimed at ensuring food security, economic efficiency, and environmental sustainability. This includes the promotion of modern agricultural communities and deploying agricultural officials at the grassroots level to address farmers' challenges, market access, and other critical issues including natural resource management.

The Minister emphasized the importance of mutual understanding and close collaboration between the Ministry and CI to achieve shared objectives. He also highlighted the necessity for CI to thoroughly comprehend the national policy outlined for the seventh mandate, balancing conservation with development. This balance involves promoting economic stability for farmers, improving community livelihoods, and encouraging community involvement in conservation efforts and sustainable agriculture.

Conservation International, which has been active in Cambodia for over two decades with support from France, has a significant mission in the protection and management of the country's natural resources. The organization also supports community-based ecosystems, contributing to the overall sustainable development of Cambodia's agricultural and environmental landscape.

By fostering this partnership, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries reaffirms its commitment to a sustainable future that integrates food security with ecological conservation, ensuring that development efforts benefit both the economy and the environment.
