Cambodia Starts Gearing Up for ASEAN Chairmanship

Phnom Penh: Work is underway to prepare for Cambodia’s chairmanship of ASEAN in 2022. Minister of Commerce, Pan Sosak, presided over the first meeting of the Organizing Committee of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) on Tuesday. It was a preparatory meeting ahead of Cambodia taking the ASEAN chairmanship in 2022.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training and the Ministry of Mines and Energy, as well as the National Bank of Cambodia and the Council for the Development of Cambodia.

During the meeting, the composition of the Organizing Committee of the ASEAN Economic Community was announced. The preparatory working group’s progress was also updated, most especially the process of reviewing the strategic goals under the pillars of the ASEAN economic community, as well as its list of priorities.

The Commerce Minister says work is progressing well towards Cambodia’s chairmanship, and expressed his confidence that ASEAN’s economic community will run smoothly and successfully next year.
