Keo Remy Urges Speculators Against Sar Kheng’s Trip to Stop

Phnom Penh: The Minister delegate to the Prime Minister Keo Remy, who is also the Chairman of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee has called on politicians and other individuals to stop making speculations on the Minister of Interior’s trip to France. The Minister of Interior Sar Kheng has flown to France on Sunday for a two-week vacation citing personal reasons. Prime Minister Hun Sen has approved Kheng’s absence in the kingdom.

However, some politicians and other critics have made comments that he is likely to meet opposition group. The interim leader of the Cambodia National Rescue Party Sam Rainsy is currently residing in France. This has resulted to conjectures among critics that Sar Kheng is probably meeting with the opposition. With different rumours coming out, Remy says, “I observe the attitude of Samdech Krala Hom [Sar Kheng], he is a person who does not like to talk a lot. So, the fact that he is a man with few words, I checked what’s happening online and I have seen a lot of slander painted about him! And this kind of assumption is the most dangerous politics that we - Cambodians in the past, should learn. We destroyed more than three million Cambodians who died during Pol Pot era because of speculations.”

Remy has recalled that during Khmer Rouge regime, some leaders made their own stories against the US, Russian and Vietnamese treating them as spies. He says it resulted to the killing of many Cambodians. He has added, “Politics is ruining our country. We went through a terrible experience in the period of 1975 to 1979 during the Khmer Rouge regime. So, I just want to say that we should change our habits and not let the bad experiences of the past come back. On the other hand, one should do politics honestly, justly, with dignity.”
