DPM Visoth Advocates for Women's Advancement in Cambodia's Digital Evolution

Phnom Penh, March 13, 2024: Cambodian leadership reaffirms the indispensable role of women and girls in propelling the digital revolution as a linchpin for accelerating socio-economic progress. This assertion resonated during the commemoration of the 113th Anniversary of International Women's Day on March 8, themed "Women and Girls in the Digital Revolution."

The advent of the digital era offers fresh avenues for women and girls to assert their rights, elevate their status, and secure enhanced access to life's opportunities, thus fostering ameliorated socio-economic standings. In the contemporary digital ecosystem, armed with digital prowess and aptitude, women and girls can engage proactively and securely.

Furthermore, the traditional yet pivotal role of women in Cambodian society, particularly in nurturing and educating future generations, assumes heightened significance in navigating the potential adverse repercussions of technology. Digital literacy emerges as an indispensable tool to ensure that technologies are harnessed constructively, steering children and community members towards moral rectitude and cultivating individuals with robust national identities.

In alignment with the government's agenda to champion gender parity and fortify women's agency, the Office of the Council of Ministers has unveiled the Strategic Plan for Gender Mainstreaming 2021-2025, positioning it as a pivotal framework to propel gender equity across programmatic structures and action blueprints. Additionally, to bolster female participation in the tech sphere, the government has instituted support initiatives catering to women's ingress into the digital domain as part of Cambodia's Digital Economy and Society Policy 2021-2035. These endeavors encompass digital leadership training tailored for women within ministries and institutions, aimed at bridging the digital gender chasm.

The leadership at the Office of the Council of Ministers pledges unwavering commitment to champion the edicts laid forth by Cambodia's former and incumbent Prime Ministers, with the aim of augmenting investment in the gender dossier and empowering women across the spectrum encompassing economy, education, health, and leadership domains. This endeavor forms a pivotal component of the overarching strategy to harness gender dividends, cultivate conducive environments for women's health choices and family planning, curtail gender-based violence, and foster wholesome intergenerational dynamics.
