59 More Police Officers Fired for Drug Offenses

Phnom Penh: In a significant crackdown on misconduct within the National Police Force, the Ministry of Interior announced the dismissal of 59 police officers affiliated with the Capital-Provincial Police Commission. The decision, disclosed on March 1, 2024, underscores the government's firm stance against drug offenses within law enforcement ranks.

Interior Ministry vice-spokesman Touch Sokkhak revealed that the termination of all 59 officers stemmed from their involvement in drug-related activities.

This latest purge adds to the ongoing efforts to uphold discipline and integrity within the police force.

In addition to the 59 officers, the Ministry of Interior also ousted eight members from the General Department of Immigration for similar drug-related transgressions, as per the official statement.

The ramifications of these dismissals extend beyond the loss of employment. The Ministry's directive includes a provision to slash the salaries and allowances of the implicated officers, effective from June 2024.

This decisive action underscores the government's commitment to combatting drug-related corruption within law enforcement agencies, ensuring accountability, and upholding public trust in the National Police Force.
