Phnom Penh Nightclub Crackdown: 78 Suspects Arrested, Over 3 kg of Drugs Confiscated

*Phnom Penh, March 10, 2024* - In a coordinated effort between the specialized forces of the Anti-Drug Department and the Phnom Penh Municipal Police, a raid was conducted at midnight targeting the City of Starry Sky nightclub, formerly known as BOEING, located in Sangkat Chaktomuk, Khan Daun Penh.

Under the direct supervision of General Sar Thet, the National Police Commissioner, and led by Lt. Gen. Kheng Sarath, Director of the Anti-Drug Department, the operation saw the arrest of 78 suspects, including both Cambodians and foreigners, predominantly Chinese and Vietnamese.

The crackdown, which commenced at 2 am, yielded significant results with authorities confiscating over 3 kilograms of drugs. The seized items were meticulously packaged and estimated by professional forces.

This crackdown is part of a broader initiative to combat drug trafficking and dismantle criminal networks involved in such activities. By implementing stringent drug testing protocols on all suspects, law enforcement aims to identify key players in the illicit drug trade and gather evidence to bolster legal proceedings.

The recent operation follows a previous crackdown on the same establishment, then known as the "BOEING Club," on October 8, 2023. During that raid, 91 individuals were apprehended, and approximately 5 kilograms of illegal drugs were seized. Despite the change in name, intelligence suggests that the venue continued to serve as a hub for clandestine drug distribution activities.

Authorities underscore the importance of upholding justice and dismantling illegal drug networks. By apprehending perpetrators and ensuring accountability under the law, law enforcement agencies strive to curb the proliferation of illicit drugs in the region. Ongoing drug testing remains pivotal in unraveling complex trafficking networks, thereby strengthening legal cases against those involved.
