Siem Reap: The Siem Reap Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries is currently investigating a group of individuals who reportedly kicked and threw monkeys into a water pool within the Angkor resort area to take pictures for personal gain. They will be dealt with according to the law and appropriate procedures.

The Department of Agriculture views this action as illegal and subject to punishment under the Forestry Law.

According to the Law on Forestry, Article 48 stipulates that all wildlife species in Cambodia are state property and constitute a part of forest resources, including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates, as well as their eggs.

Article 99 specifies that individuals who commit third-degree forestry offenses, such as harassing, causing harm to, collecting eggs of endangered or rare species, or destroying their habitats, may face imprisonment ranging from one month to one year, or fines ranging from one million to ten million riels.
