Phnom Penh: Mr. Khvay Atiya, spokesperson for the Ministry of Environment, emphasized that the dedication of women environmental officials represents the epitome of heroism and invaluable sacrifice, particularly in ensuring the survival of natural resource management.

March 8, 2024, marked the celebration of International Women's Day worldwide, including in Cambodia.

Mr. Khvay Athiya said that out of a total of 1,069 park rangers, about 30 percent of the women have been serving as rangers who have played an important role in educating, disseminating, preventing and cracking down on natural resource crimes responsibly. Protected areas in 15 provinces in Cambodia.

He said that all the park rangers sacrificed time with their families, their physical, mental and mental strength to patrol the mountains, valleys, streams and rivers day and night without fear of getting sick, lost their way and lost their way. Difficult roads, floods, facing a crime, accidents by any means.

He mentioned that park rangers, regardless of gender, have been stationed and conducting regular patrols to combat natural resource crimes across all protected areas, encompassing more than 7 million hectares, which is approximately 40% of Cambodia's total land area.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Environment said that in the past as well as now, rangers have received care and encouragement from the Royal Government through the Ministry of Environment, such as health care, disease prevention, vocational training, capacity building, patrols. And suppress crime, means, materials, use of equipment in line with the new developments of technology and national development.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Environment has intensified efforts to enhance the management and decision-making processes related to natural resource management. This includes providing opportunities to enhance the capacity, skills, and effectiveness of women in their roles, as well as fostering greater participation among women, children, and girls in the environmental sector.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Environment commended all civil servants of the ministry, particularly the female rangers, for their bravery, patriotism, commitment, and dedication to conserving Cambodia's natural resources for present and future generations.
