UNDP Praises Cambodia's Environmental Strategy for 2023-2028 as a Blueprint for Positive Climate Action

Phnom Penh: The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) lauded Cambodia's Environmental Strategy for 2023-2028 for its clarity and potential to foster a positive shift in addressing regional climate challenges. This commendation came during a discussion between Christophe Bahuet, UNDP Regional Director, and the Minister of Environment on March 5, 2024, at the Ministry of Environment.

Following a comprehensive presentation by Dr. Eang Sophalleth, Minister of the Environment, Bahuet highlighted the strategy's role as a guiding beacon towards embracing clean energy sources. This strategic direction is deemed crucial for ensuring sustainable socio-economic development and enhancing resilience against climate change, with a strong focus on fostering cooperation and investing in green infrastructure development.

The Ministry of Environment and the UNDP have a longstanding partnership, working collaboratively on development initiatives aimed at economic, social, and community upliftment in Cambodia. These initiatives include projects related to REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) and climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts.

Moreover, the UNDP has committed to supporting the Ministry of Environment's key strategies, emphasizing the shared goal of achieving significant milestones in regional development partnerships. This alignment underscores a mutual dedication to environmental sustainability and the proactive response to climate change challenges in the region.
