Cambodia Unveils Ambitious Transit and Logistics Master Plan for 2023-2033

Phnom Penh: On March 4, 2024, the Council for the Development of Cambodia announced a groundbreaking Comprehensive Master Plan on Cambodia's Transit and Logistics System for the decade spanning 2023 to 2033. This announcement, made by Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, Vice President of the Council, through an official Facebook post, outlines an ambitious blueprint designed to revolutionize the country's transportation and logistics infrastructure.

The master plan encapsulates seven key areas: Roads, Railways, River Transport, Sea Transport, Air Transport, Logistics, and Intermediate Transportation. It comprises 174 projects that span both software (systems and processes) and hardware (physical infrastructure), with an estimated investment requirement of approximately $36.6 billion.

Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol elaborated on the vision behind the master plan, emphasizing its goal to enhance and expand Cambodia's transportation and logistics system comprehensively. The plan aims to foster the development of a highly interconnected transport network that facilitates seamless movement within the country and integrates efficiently with regional systems. This strategic development is expected to bolster national economic growth, addressing the demands of socio-economic sustainability and environmental considerations.

The comprehensive approach outlined in the master plan signals a significant step forward in Cambodia's efforts to improve its infrastructure, positioning the nation to capitalize on increased trade, mobility, and economic opportunities in the coming years.
